HolidayVillaDirect.com - Holiday Guide to Granada, Andalucia, Spain.
Granada is located in inland Andalucia, Spain. Granada has to be one of the Spain's most scenic and beautiful locations, its natural beauty and spectacular scenery has to be seen to believed.
Granada typically also has the Spanish churches, museums and bull rings but these pail into insignificance by comparison to the magnificence of the Alhambra Palace in Granada, which is understandably considered by many to be one of the 10 wonders of the World. The Alhambra stands at the foot of The Sierra Nevada Mountain range and the palace overlooks the sprawling city and fertile plains of Granada below. It's easy to envisage powerful Sultans sat in the magnificent palace looking down on all of their minions in bygone eras. To be fair the Alhambra Palace is much more than one ancient palace, it is a series of palaces with extravagant fountains, water gardens and irrigation systems built, extended, improved and personalized by powerful sultans over hundreds of years. The Alhambra Palace in Granada is a massive castle constructed over many centuries. It consists of gardens, fortifications and sumptuous palaces. It was the home of many of the Arabic Sultans who ruled the whole province and who clearly wanted to demonstrate their power and wealth with the magnificence of these palaces. The Koran says that heaven is a garden with running water, if that is the case the sultans were clearly trying to create heaven on earth. The Alhambra Palace is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Spain. It receives approximately 8,000 visitors per day but the place is enormous and extremely well organized so it can cope with the number of visitors very well and you will find that most of your needs are catered for on site. There are massive car parking areas, which are very well sign posted. Because of the Alhambra's popularity admission tickets are often sold out by 10am daily. For that reason we strongly recommend that you buy tickets in advance by telephone with a credit card. Simply phone 902-22-44-60 from within Spain or 00-34-915-37-91-78 from any telephone outside Spain. The booking procedure is easy and the telephonists can speak English. You can buy your ticket up to a year in advance but you must book at least one day in advance of your visit. They accept visa or Master Card (American express is not accepted.) When you pre-book your visit you nominate the date and time of your visit. You must keep to that date and time. When you book by phone you will be given a ticket number, you must write this number down and remember to take it with you to Alhambra Palace or you may not get in. By pre-booking entry you get the advantage of being able to collect the tickets in the special / express pre-booked tickets queue at the Alhambra ticket office. This will save you up to two hours queuing in the normal ticket queue! By pre-booking you will also have guaranteed access as opposed to those who turn up on the day risking being turned away. When you arrive at the Alhambra look out for the pre-booked tickets / express queue "Tequilla de reserva." Don't queue in the normal tickets queue, you were clever enough to pre-book so why queue for hours? The Alhambra Palace is spectacular and you cannot envisage the size or magnificence of the place until you see it. So go and see for yourself. There is a considerable amount of walking to do once you get to the Alhambra Palace simply because of the sheer size of the palace. Consequently we suggest that this is not a trip for very young children and we recommend comfortable walking shoes. Make the most of this incredible piece of history by pre-planning your visit and allowing plenty of time. Don't let the last couple of proviso's put you off visiting this incredible piece of history, allow a full day to visit the palace, take your time and explore every nook and cranny and you are guaranteed a trip to remember. There is far more to offer in Granada than the Alhambra Palace I was so blown away by the Alhambra Palace that I got to explore no further! I can see only one solution to this, a repeat visit to Granada! Granada is such a central location in Andalucia that it can be reached from several of the holiday homes and vacation villas that we offer for rental at holiday-villa-direct.com.
