Diving in Andalucia is available at many of the costal areas. Seasoned divers may find that the western part of the Mediterranean Ocean is not particularly challenging but there is still plenty to see and explore, particularly the closer one gets to the meeting point of the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Going eastwards, the coastline is much more rugged around Cabo de Gata, in Almeria , and on the Costa Tropical , at Almunecar.

Dive sites provide a mix of rocky underwater landscapes, reefs and wrecks. The waters around Gibraltar have a number of interesting wrecks. There are many dive schools in Andalucia for example at Nerja, on the Costa del Sol and Costa Tropical you will find Club Nautique Nerja , the BSAC International Premier Dive School and Dive Club, where BSAC and PADI courses are offered.

Windsurfing in Andalucia. For beginners to average windsurfers there are numerous resorts on the Costa's where you can windsurf. Roquetas del Mar is one such resort, where you can build up your confidence gradually in a gentle breeze.
Tarifa in Cadiz is famous for its windsurfing but due to the perilously winds this location is only suitable for the serious windsurfers. Events such as the Ballentines Championship and the Toro Andaluz race takes place here during Easter Week, which is when the windsurfing season really takes off.

Horse Riding in Andalucia. The horse is an integral part of rural life in Andalucia . You will find that numerous farms, riding schools, maneges and stables provide riding lessons or simply hire horses for riding. All standards of riders are catered for and the varied landscape offers a large selection of venues from beach rides to mountain treks or classic horseback trails.

Skiing in Andalucia. You may be surprised to discover that Andalucia actually has a ski resort, having heard of its climate. However if you travel to The Sierra Nevada you will find the high altitude Sierra Nevada ski resort, where the 1996 world ski championships was hosted.

At Sierra Nevada there are numerous ski runs with varying degrees of challenge to satisfy all levels of skiing ability. Snow cannons on some runs supplement natural snow.

As with most ski resorts there is plenty of "apres ski" and you can find an active nightlife in the Sierra Nevada resort. Spaniards do have a well-deserved reputation for being 'night owls' and this can be witnessed in this ski resort. Most of the visitors are relatively local, coming from Madrid and the cities of Andalucia, so weekends and banks holidays are naturally busier than mid-week. The skiing season is December to April.

Cycling in Andalucia. In the country as a whole, cycling is a popular competitive sport, with over 5,000 annual cycling races and events staged at all levels throughout the country. These include many professional races, such as the tour of Spain held over three weeks in April and May and the third most important world cycle race after the tours of France and Italy.

Mountain biking in Andalucia. In Andalucia there are so many hills, mountains and open spaces that it’s hardly surprising that mountain biking is a popular sport. Mountain biking is treated as either a serious sports, or a relaxing pastime in Andalucia, the choice of how serious you wish to take it is entirely yours but either way the terrain and weather in Andalucia are ideal. Bikes can be rented in many mountain resorts and can even be taken on specially adapted chair lifts to the tops of mountains.
